Artist Statement

My practice is guided by gnosis — a synergy of intuition, improvisation, and spontaneity. Working across collage, painting, sculpture, and installation, I explore the intersections of identity, transformation, mysticism, and the supernatural.

Each work unfolds through spontaneous layering, intuitive gesture, and a moody interplay of atmosphere and symbolism. Extending from this process, I engage Caribbean diaspora and hermetic traditions through process, material choices, and layered imagery.

In this marriage of material, concept, and technique, I forge objects and images charged with memory, spirituality, and the human condition. For me, art is a transformative force — a bridge between the personal and the universal, a dialogue that awakens belonging, community, and freedom.

Biography

Fernando Ramos is a queer Latin American interdisciplinary artist based in Miami, FL, working across collage, painting, sculpture and installation. Their practice examines how material processes, gesture and repetition can articulate questions of identity, renewal and belonging.

Drawing on Caribbean diaspora and hermetic philosophies, Ramos combines crafted and found elements to consider spirituality, transformation, and cultural memory. Through layered construction and symbolic imagery, their work traces the dialogue between body, ritual and myth.

They hold an Associates in the Arts from Miami-Dade College and have presented work in museums, galleries, and public programs across the United States, including the Lowe Art Museum, UCF Art Gallery, Rollings Museum and during the College Art Associations 2024 conference in Chicago, IL.

Ramos continues to expand their practice through projects that test the boundary between image and object, approaching the studio as a site of repair and reinvention.
